lampshade makeover

i'm back as promised to show you a little project i got done in about an hour- from start to finish. and don't we all love projects that can be done in one sitting! well i do ;)

so here's what i started with. a 50 cent lampshade found at the markets.
i then cut strips of fabric (an old sheet) about 2.5 times the height of the shade.
and then simply ties them in knots around the shade, keeping them close together.
i made sure the knots were tied at different heights too.
here it is finished! i love that the inside is also completely covered.
if you wanted a neater finish, you could always tie the knots on the inside.

and if i change my mind, the original shade can go back on.
here's what it looked like before.

bedroom makeover

we are now almost at the end of 2 weeks of school holidays, and boy, have they flown by so fast!!i had no intention of making over our bedroom these holidays, but that's just what happened.
nothing too major, but i'll walk you through my choices and how they came to be!
a few weeks ago, i found these bedside tables at a church garage sale. i only bought them because i thought they would be easy to repaint and sell. little did i know they would inspire a beachy coastal bedroom makeover.
they got a couple of coats of Zinsser sealer, 2 coats of aqua, and a little shabbying.
once they were done, i decided they were a little on the 'bright' side, so rubbed some white paint over them with a rag.
you can see the end result above. they also got a coat of Porters Sealer.

no drawers are complete without scented draw liners. i found these pretties in Dollars and Sense.
this little stool was also a garage sale find.
here it is made over. it's also ended up in our bedroom.
my camera bag hangs above it now.
then came the bed head! i think it's difficult to find a really nice bed head in a king size that doesn't cost the earth. i've been dreaming of a gorgeous swirly whirly cane one for a while.
i was cruising around Pinterest last week and found the perfect bed head. AND it was a good price. AND they made it in King size. AND they shipped to my door in Brisbane from Melbourne for $50!
here's my new baby being unwrapped.
and in her new home
these vintage pillowcases (never used) give the bed just the right amount of happy colour.
here are a few shots of the rest of the room. i shopped the house for blue and aqua touches.
the divine timber cross is a new purchase :)
