back in the fast lane

and so another school year begins. i can't quite believe my eldest is a Senior this year, and my baby is in Middle School! the holidays are long gone, and Term One is well under way.
working between 2 schools is well and truly keeping me out of mischief, and the days and flying by.

i've only been into the odd op shop here and there lately, but found this sweet retro mirror
(with my dream chair on it!)
and this cool topiary style holder of some sort. it's now holding succulents (the only plants i can keep alive) outside!
i have managed to score some fab linen as well- finding a $4 king sized white doona cover and a $4 king sized white sheet! love a great linen find!!
we had a long weekend to celebrate Australia Day a couple of weeks ago. Usually a weekend perfect for a beach getaway or at least a BBQ outdoors with friends, but instead we were hit with cyclonic winds and torrents of rain for 3 days straight!
we battened down the hatches, and only left the safety of our home for the essentials- food and wine lol!
the dark dreary weather bought wine o'clock around earlier than usual. yep still in my PJ's at 5pm!!
boredom eventaully set in, which saw me making clay tags for next Christmas (what the?!)
painting up a blackboard, vignetting with jugs and cutlery,
and generally foofing about the house.
it was so great to get the sunshine back!!
i'm beginning to get withdrawals from lack of furniture painting, so hope to find a good chunk of time to get a piece done up soon! until then, i'd love you to come visit me on instagram ;)
have a happy week!

snippets from the last few weeks

good morning!
thought it was time to pop into the old blog and say hello.
i don't think i've ever gone this long between blog posts!
teaching and family and just keeping the house from turning into a down right tip is pretty much taking up all my time and energy.
so i thought i'd show a few pics (mainly from instagram) to show what we've been up to.
we were pretty house bound throughout the school holidays, as the hubs has been recovering from a pretty full on knee injury and surgery. as he improved, we managed some lunches out. my girls (like their Mum!) are real foodies!
here's my crispy duck salad. yum
i've been pottering around the house, moving things, chucking stuff, and had a market stall to sell off a whole stack of unwanted junk from around this place. i can now proudly say both cars fit in our garage lol.
scored myself this cool timber box which i'm loving.
i've indulged in the purchase of some more scented candles and the latest homey mags just to get me through! such a nice way to have a bit of time out.
there has been alot of cooking happening in our kitchen. Em whipped up this amazing vanilla slice from scratch. i hate cooking personally, but happy to get in there and clean up!
speaking of which, our dishwasher decided to give up the ghost yesterday (i'll admit it was 17 years old!) so there will be some dishwasher shopping/purchasing happening this weekend (if not today)!!
this working between 2 schools is well and truly keeping me out of trouble, but i'm loving it!
not work today, so off to get the hair done, and spend the arvo having lunch with the hubs- which is what we did last Friday too!
we enjoyed a gorgeous lunch at Vio's and had the Restaurant to ourselves!
i've had a few jars of these lovelies scattered throughout the house along with some daisies. might need to get some more today....
my shopping is list growing haha!
i got the sewing machine out for about an hour last Sunday, and threw together a shabby bunting for our bedroom. i think it adds just the right amount of vintage happy :)
Bed Bath n Table had a sale on their mugs (and lots of other lovely items) so i bought myself this one and another in chevron blue. they are SO nice to drink out of and hold! $4.45 each. what a bargain!
Sarah over at a Beach Cottage was sporting some great new hair dos, so i tried this multi bun style. i can tell, you it's gonna look alot better once i get my regrowth tended to this morning!
swimming lessons started this week at one school i work at, so this was my view on Tuesday for about 30 minutes :)
Stopped in at Spotlight on Wednesday, and what do i find? a complete copy of Cath Kidston's rosey bird fabric! gorgeous! had to get some of the blue!
i'm enjoying getting back into the morning walks too.
so that about sums up what's been going on.
school lunches are calling, and there's washing up to be done...
catch u soon, but i'll be on instagram before the day is out ;)

~vintage finds~

good morning!
popping in quickly to show off some finds from the last couple of weekends.

here's my 1st find of this morning- cast iron "Salter n0.34" kitchen scales.
they are soo heavy! wish the bowl had come with them. it's now sitting behind
my other vintage scales on my kitchen hutch.
sweet candle holder (i have a few other pieces that match this one)
and a cut glass jar/pepper shaker without it's top. perfect for holding a few
flowers to sit on the bedside table. i'm such a sucker for vintage cut glass
and pottery/ceramic roses! and cute cherubs for that matter ;))
LOVE a good old wine box! i've come across a few, but never at the right price!
thankfully this one was! thought it would be great for holding all my
sample sized paint pots.
last Sunday i visited a local Antique Fair.
this little unmarked jug was the 1st thing i bought.
vintage milkshake cups! i've kept the typed price tag on them,
and will use them as vases.
English Staffordshire canister. i'm think i'll paint the lid white.
this one might end up in the bathroom holding cotton buds, etc.
my last find at the Fair were these pretty vintage brooches.
my collection of brooches is definitely growing!
you can see my other brooches here.
have a happy week everyone.

treasures found & pretty flowers

morning to you all!
i thought i'd pop in a show off a few finds from the last 2 weeks.
my markets have been pretty disappointing lately, and i'm not coming home with much!

i did find these old milk bottles this morning though.
now who remembers having milk delivered in these as a child? Me!!
they look so pretty lined up with a few flowers poked in.
love them against the crochet. so romantic looking :)
not sure what type of flower they are.
they grow like crazy all year round in the rockery by our pool.
spotted this sweet nest on the grass roadside on the way to school last week.
filled it with some plastic Easter eggs
an old cut glass ice bucket now home to a bunch of cutlery
found this sterling silver ring from the 70's in a tray
filled with vintage silver charms and jewelry.
love how high the setting sits.
and i just HAD to take a few snaps of these 8 day old ducklings!
little balls of sunshine ;)
and have a little cuddle!
i had ducks as a child. just adore them!

clearing out the china cabinet

hi to you all. hope you are enjoying your weekend.
i finally pulled out my china cabinet and emptied out all the
pretties i have collected. i have found a leadlight sideboard to replace
this, so it is for sale through my facebook page here.
quaint coffee cups that were gifted to my Grandparents at their engagement
party. they have never been used. Granny gave them to me one weekend
i stayed over at her place.
this little pottery vase was the first of my pottery roses collection.

another favourite vase i found in an op shop.
pretty tea set from Nanna.
Grandpa's War Medals, and doilies his Mother made.
Needlepoint ceramic box that holds 4 matching ashtrays.
this was a gift from my Great Aunty.
so there are just a few of my favourite things.
many special memories.
