Kacey's room

as i have mentioned in the last few posts, we have been busy
prepping and painting the girl's bedrooms.
Kacey's room is finished!
Above is a pic of her room now.
(and her sleeping companions ;)

i thought i'd show you some pics of her room from the last 3 years,
and how it has changed.
back in 2008, she had Pumpkin Patch doona and matching gingham curtains.
Kacey went straight from her cot into a double bed when she turned two.
her brass bed was a road side find, the cupboard was from
eBay and the dressing table found in an op shop. (painted up by me of course)
later that year we lightened things up with a change of curtains
(found at the markets for $20)
and a 'new' Charlie Brown doona cover- also from the markets for $5
i sold the dressing table and cupboard which we were finding impractical
when it came to storage, and replaced them with Granny's pink bedside table
and G'pa's chest of drawers.
her room stayed pretty much like this for about 2 years,
and then Kace said she was tiring of all the floral.
so we said goodbye to the Charlie Brown doona cover and got a lovely white one ($5)
as well as replacing the double bed with a queen sized one.
she has wanted her room painted green since then too,
and we settled on a Dulux paint called "Peaceful Bay" quarter strength.
it's perfect :)
more of a soft aqua than a green.

we gave her the freedom to choose some different decor to jazz things up a bit.
this cute owl print was from IKEA for $20
Kacey and Emily love collecting shells every time we visit the beach,
and Kace loves to have a display of some of them.
her treasured rubber collection came out of it's box, and
into a couple of lidded glass containers that were sitting in a cupboard to show them off.
b'day presents from her 9th birthday last year.
an IKEA lamp shade teamed with a lamp base i already had.
Kacey at one day old :)
set of etched mirrors from IKEA.
Granny's bedside table got the white treatment.
the cactus, lamp and mirror also from IKEA.
all chosen by Kace.
G'pa's drawers are now in our room-
you may remember them from this previous post. Both girls have
the same large mirror, chest of drawers and queen sized bed from IKEA.
yes, we like IKEA!!!
so there you have it. another finished room.
and the colour is SO peaceful too.
love how it's turned out.

Holiday fun- horse riding

after making about 5 wrong turns, we finally found 'Slickers' horse riding
in the prettiest setting.

the girl's watched the previous session ride on in.

we all wore our hair in plaits. i told the girls that was
the 'horse riding' rule haha.

With helmets on ready to go,
Kacey met up with a sweet little shetland pony who had a mane full
of burs.
Emily was on Ammi and Kacey rode Mandrake
and we set out on our 1.5 hour ride (which became 2 hours)
excited looks from the girls as they venture off on their 1st ride ever :)
i was so glad to be behind them to keep a close eye on how they were going!
beautiful dam complete with lily pads on the 800 acres owned by Slickers.
water sports allowed, although no fishing or "SWIMMIN"
as the sign said (so wished i got a pic of that sign!)
we often stopped so that Malcolm our leader could instruct, take the mickey out
of us riders and tell a few jokes.
my horse was Max. he was a cranky old fella too.
we rode through thick bush
trotted down narrow, trodden out pathways
and along dirt roads. we were always met with breath taking scenery.
although the forecast was for fine weather, it was overcast and
it drizzled a little- all adding to the tranquil bush setting.

Em giving Ammi a gentle pat.
homeward bound along the opposite side of the dam.
saying goodbye
i found time to snap a 'still life' pic before we left!
what a super fun afternoon. i thoroughly recommend this place to all
you locals!

i can't tell you how proud i am of my precious ones. they did SO extremely
well. definitely naturals when it comes to riding a horse.
i've already had my hot bubble bath!
my knees were not working as well as they should've after 2 hours on
horseback. lets' see how i fair in the morning!!

bedside table

here's a sweet bedside table that i finished this week.
it got the same vintage look floral contact treatment as
this pair got.
i could just see it in the corner of a guest room, nursery or girl's room.
the babushka measuring cup dolls were a gift from my girl's.
having the pretty contact on top, means that minimal decor is
needed! or if you like a little "clutter", lots of white and blue pieces would look fab.
i was asked about what paint i used for the little suitcase, and
how i prepared it before hand in an earlier post.
i just gave it a good wash down, let it dry and did 2 coats of Dulux white.
nothing fancy at all :)

before....
i'm going to get stuck into the girl's rooms with them today.
while Mike paints walls, i'll be painting up photo frames and lamp bases!
and i've been told- "no shabbying allowed!!"

they have chosen more modern pieces from IKEA to funk things up a bit.
according to my almost 13 year old, the decor has to be funky...
ok then!

smokey glass-top table

i found this coffee/ side table by chance on eBay.
the owner lived just up the road from me.
i wouldn't normally go for smokey coloured glass,
but i knew this would look great with a paint.
another paint found on the 'mistint' trolley!
it's a soft white with a hint of grey. looks great up against the
glass i think.
i love how large the weave in the wicker is. and not a single break.
it only got a very light sand. just enough to show up some of the dark timber underneath.
i think it helps balance out the darkness of the glass.
one of my big old chandeliers. still not wired in yet!
this is where i'll enjoy my morning coffee.
such a nice sunny spot in Winter.

before....
Mike is painting the girl's rooms these holidays, and it is in full swing!
the colour they chose will be on the walls by the end of the morning.
they have been a part of the whole process- cleaning their ceiling fans, covering
furniture, washing the walls, vacuuming etc. now the fun part can begin!

i've been hiding out in the garage painting furniture- some for my yard sale,
and some 'freshening' up of existing furniture in Kacey's room.

it's time for that coffee!

beachy wardrobe & drawers

these 2 pieces of furniture were given to me from a friend
who was having a clean out.
i thought they'd look great with a bit of a beachy look.
we let our girls choose paint for their bedrooms these holidays,
and while we were at Bunnings, i found a gorgeous blue paint on the 'mistint'
trolley. it's a shame it's only a sample pot, as i could go crazy with this colour!
both pieces have been painted white,
then blue over the top and sanded back.
they match perfectly, but i'm keeping the cupboard!
such GREAT storage :)
and i'd keep the drawers if i had a beach house....
dream on....
the cupboard is in the outdoor area and stores
paint, outdoor toys, tools, etc.
