pink drawer dresser

i painted this dresser up on Sunday tucked up in our garage due to chilly wet weather.
a friend wanted to get rid of it so it ended up at my place.
i love the rounded top drawers and decided that painting the drawers pink
would help them stand out even more.
there's just something about soft pinks.
how gorgeous would this look in a little girls room.
i think it would also be perfect in a lolly shop too! the pink and white
reminds me of candy :)
i could just see it lined with glass jars that were filled with
candy hearts and musk sticks....
i dabbed a little white paint on the drawer handles for a soft
contrast against the drawers.

before....
the sunshine is back so
i'm off to paint up a couple of cute trolleys i got my hands on recently!

flowers at home & Cath Kidston love

hi to you all!
after another crazy week, i'm finally able to sit and do a post!
we are onto our 2nd lot of visitors- or should i say visitor! My Aunty is over from America staying with us for 5 days. we haven't seen her for 3 years, so have had a great time catching up.

sadly she hasn't experienced Brisbane's usual warm and sunny weather. instead, it has been
absolutely freezing. On Thursday, the thermometer didn't get over 13*, and the sun didn't show at all! our coldest day here in 11 years!!

i received a package in the mail on Thursday from Dublin. My Mum
has caught the traveling bug and found a Cath Kidston store while shopping in Dublin!
she told me she would post a few things home.
I LOVE LOVE Cath Kidston, so was so excited!!

i got the cute birdy teatowel above,
this purse, keyring and luggage tag,
and 2 pearl buttoned cushion covers.
and i am in LOVE with it all!
i grab CK stuff whenever i can get my hands on it.
unfortunately, that's quite difficult here in Australia.
Most of my purchases have been through eBay.
a couple of days before all this heart stopping gorgeousness arrived in the mail,
i found this Cath Kidston
look alike bag in an op shop for $4!!! more LOVE... sigh...
you saw these roses a few posts ago.
they have been cut back and have gone from this...
to this!
and these pretty pink carnations @ $3.40 on clearance went from this...
to this

these roses were also $3.40. after a week in an old Fowlers jar,
i cut them back and
here they are again in a mercury glass container.
i find that if i cut back part of the stem that has sat in water, replace the water
and container, i get a little more life from them, and therefore
more time to enjoy them!
thankyou all for your lovely comments on my last post!
i'm glad you like my painted silver plated items.
i just used regular white Dulux paint (as always!) and gave them 3 coats each.
i'm sure they will scratch over time from use, but you could maybe try sealing them?
i don't mind a scratch here and there so haven't sealed mine.
good luck with your own!

painting silver plate

i love to experiment painting on surfaces other than timber.
i have done many metal chairs, but have always wanted to have a go at
doing up some pretty silver plated items.
all these pieces were found in different op shops on one of my
hunting expeditions.
( and i'm planning on doing a little 'hunting today too ;)
yes, all white again, but think some of these would have looked gorgeous
with a lick of pink paint too.
the round tray is quite big and perfect for a tea party or breaky in bed!
the pretty detailed edging shows up beautifully through the white
don't you think?

a couple of the pieces before....
i wonder what i'll find today.....
oh, and i'll be sure to let you know the date of my YARD sale
as soon as i do!!

cute desk

my lovely sis-in-law and i had great success at the markets this morning.
she's so thrilled with all her finds.
i was happy to find this little desk. didn't need painting, but i shabbied her up around the edges

and added some pink gingham ribbon pulls for a girly touch.
this boudoir stool i showed you a while ago seems to be the perfect match
i used a couple of "Holly Hobbie" style pictures from an old
calendar to line the drawer and cupboard

this italian candelabra was a find from last week.
it will be sure to get some white paint :)
although as is, it has a lovely worn patina
we have to say goodbye to our little Sydney family in the morning :(
we have all had such a blast together.
here's Josh enjoying some time by the pool.
such a little entertainer,
always so happy
and so busy!
next time we see him, he will have a little sister
enjoy your Sunday

HUGE dining table

here are some pics of the dining table i told you about. i painted it up for a friend who recently graduated with her PhD. this was her present from her husband.
they gave me some details as to what they were after, and i found this beauty on eBay.
made from recycled timber, it was just what they were after for their family of 5.
it was painted antique white and heavily sanded so that the varying
colours of the timber would show through.
check out the size of the legs!
it was a mammoth job to say the least!
it took about the same time as my kitchen hutch i painted up.
you can see it here.
it had to be thoroughly sanded, to remove the stain and varnish. Mike did this part for me!
3 hours of sanding and cleaning for it to look like this!
4 coats of paint, a good sand (which equaled a good workout for me!) and 2 coats of
sealer got us this result....

before....
i was so pleased to hear from the owners of the table once they had had their 1st family meal:

"thankyou Kate for helping us create a lovely family heirloom.

the whole family made my PhD possible so it was lovely
to have our symbol of success come from the talents of a friend."

duck egg blue chairs

good morning :)
thought i'd show you some lovely old bentwood chairs i found earlier in the week.
( and some ruby red roses Mike bought me)
i think they are the PERFECT shade of blue.
duck egg blue would you say?
thinking i might have to drag one of these chairs down to
Bunnings and get them to 'colour match' and make me up in a tin of paint...
pretty up against my blue floral "Cath Kidston" look tablecloth.
all the chairs needed was a good scrub. no painting needed.
we have my brother, sis-in-law and gorgeous 2 year old nephew staying with us for a week.
my 31 week pregnant sista and i have hit loads of op shops and some garage sales early this morning. i keep checking that she's not too tired to keep shopping and get the same reply each time "NO! i'm fine!" LOVE that we have bargain hunting/shopping in common.
she can't wait for the Sunday markets tomorrow :)

a few finds from this week:
*chenille bedspreads
*tea cup and saucer
*tiny glass cloche
(just fits my crystal napkin holders underneath)
again, the weather is beyond perfect up here in Brisbane.
sunny skies and a top of 24* forecast for the whole week.
i have lots of painting projects to do, but not with a 2 year old around! might have to wait
till next week ;)
