overnight getaway

we have not been home long from a quick overnight stay on the Sunshine Coast.
today being the Show Holiday, gave us the perfect excuse to head up to the in-laws
straight after school yesterday. Mike picked the girls up a bit early as well, which made for extra excitement!

homeleigh house is a shop i always pay a visit to when up the coast.
it is full of beautiful homewares, candles, clothing and jewelry.
i haven't ever bought anything from there, but i accidentally did today ;)

here are my purchases.
we had lunch at Caloundra Coffee Club and this was our view.
of all the Coffee Clubs we have been to, this one offers exceptional service.
(Kace wasn't happy here, because the photo i had taken previous to this one, had cut her face off- being the shortest of our family, and taking it with my iPhone. she was not impressed lol)
and oh my goodness, my 13 year old is now as tall as me!
after a scrummy lunch, we headed to Shelley Beach for some shell collecting.

some cute critters that Em found.

we then drove around to Moffat Beach, and walked from there around to Dicky Beach to
view the SS Dicky.
it is an iron steamboat that ran aground during heavy seas many years ago.
Dicky Beach remains the only recreational beach in the world
that is named after a shipwreck.

love this! someone has woven old rubber thongs through the fence.
long shadows on the sand.
love it.

i found....

this pretty bunch of faux flowers for $1

Greengate cushions $5 for the pair
i'm not as into patchwork anymore,
but these do look great with all my other florals on the daybed.
a fabulous old rocking chair for $20
not a bad price considering the price of this one!
it will get white shabby treatment like this one.
and i have the most perfect duck egg blue floral fabric for recovering it :)
a German vase
i'm thinking hydrangeas for it.....
another box. i scrubbed it with soap and steel wool.
what a colour!
my box collection is really taking off
sweet $5 European pillowcase with ties in the clearance box at Target
a funky rose ring and my 1st ever leopard print purchase!
even if i did rip a hole in the side of it, excitedly getting the tag off. it doesn't matter.
only $8 from K-Mart.
i think it's pretty cool.
oh yeah. now i'm one of those groovy happening Mum's.
i hope ;)
i hope your week is off to a good start too!
Wednesday is a public holiday, so it's going to get even better.

Emily's Room

now that Emily has received her pretty doona for her birthday, her room makeover
is almost complete!
she spotted this doona cover months ago, and has waited patiently for the chance
to put it on her bed.
above is a cobalt blue vase and roses from IkEA.
here are a couple of shots of what her room has looked liked over the years.
old brass bed we had restored.
bedhead found at a garage sale.
Rachel Ashwell linen.
now that she's a teenager, shabby chic florals are to a minimum.
bling is in!
flowers and vase from IkEA.
silver bracelet from Nanna and Poppi
Em when she was a day old
collection of Em's perfumes
cute eye mask that matches in with the decor
owl print we found in Cotton On
Em likes to change what hangs here.
for now it's a pretty scarf
birthday balloons from Nanna and Poppi
in the corner.
Em is an organised and diligent student and uses the white
magnetic board to the left for timetables and due dates for assignments.

still yet to buy some bedside lamps.
otherwise Em is so pleased with her new bedroom look.
she had a fabulous birthday on Sunday x
i am the world's proudest Mum :)

Spring is just around the corner

i want to pretty things up for Em's birthday party which is next weekend. so
yesterday, i pulled out all the floral pillowcases i own and lined them up on my 'new'
cream chenille bedspread i found in an op shop the other day.
here's what the daybed looked like before.

i sat outside this morning and thoroughly enjoyed a great coffee
in my favourite vintage 'Mother' cup.
some have been cut and sewn into cushion size.
and some are just folded around a cushion insert.
a nice bright vintage single sheet on the outdoor table.
i'll line some tealights along here for the party too.

early morning shot. love this spot :)
beautiful day up here.
1st time in short sleeves.
happy rest of the weekend.

random pics & purchases

hello to you all. so glad it's Friday!
We are in our last month of Winter (huge yay!) and the sun is rising a minute
earlier every morning.
thought i'd share some finds from last weekend.
above is a single IKEA rosalie doona cover that i found at the markets. back when Cath Kidston wasn't
'known', she did a few designs for Ikea. This linen sells for a fortune on eBay,
so i was smiling when the lady happily took $5!

and below, what a pretty candle holder! all rusted up looking.
$1 :)
the only denim i would usually do is jeans and shorts, but when i found this
cute vest with tags still attached, decided to give it a go. i think it will go nicely over
some of my Summer maxi dresses.
love the belts too.
last week i managed to paint up these kitchen stools for my neighbour.
still another 2 to go.

as well as a third suitcase to add to my growing suitcase stack.
bird cages are really becoming a thing around here. i spotted these rusted up
beauties on eBay a couple of hours before the auction ended.
another purchase from the lovely Deb who has a blog here.
i bought this entry table years ago from Deb as well.
the floral stool has been replaced by my shabby pink box.
pure white chrysanthemums
layered scrolly loveliness
the smaller frame had a mirror in it and once sat in my laundry. you can see it here.
after it fell on me twice (the 2nd time the mirror and frame smashed)
i decided to move it! Mike glued the frame up for me. you can still see its
scars.
pink daisies on special this week.
one of my teacup candles. you can see how i made them here.
i love burning scented candles during the day
as well as at night. just don't forget to blow it out before going shopping and to
pick up the kids from school! i did once!!
it looks like we are finally in for some rain this weekend. we desperately need it, and
haven't had any decent rain since the floods in January.

my baby turns 13 on Sunday! i hardly feel old enough to own a teenager!!
she has chosen her favourite restaurant where we will meet her
grandparents for lunch. should be a fun day.

enjoy your weekend :)
